How to use this convert hours to decimal calculator

- Enter hours and minutes (0–59), or a non-negative decimal.
- Read both the decimal and the HH:MM form.

The calculation formula
Decimal hours = Hours + Minutes ÷ 60Divide the minutes by 60.
Add that fraction to the whole hours.
In the reverse direction, multiply the fractional hour by 60 and round to the nearest minute.

Example calculations
1 hour 15 minutes is 1 + 15 ÷ 60 = 1.25 decimal hours.
7 hours 15 minutes is 7 + 15 ÷ 60 = 7.25 decimal hours.
7:45 is 7 + 45 ÷ 60 = 7.75 hours. The reverse of 8.5 hours is 8:30.

- This page converts a duration, not a time of day on a clock face.
- Minutes must be between 0 and 59. Values such as 75 minutes are rejected instead of rolled into extra hours.
- Reverse conversion rounds to the nearest minute.
